Past Times

I spent the most part of my saturday morning looking through old sketchbooks and projects from my secondary school years, GCSEs, A-Levels and College. Some are frankly just shocking but hilare. Even so I don't really want to get rid as I'm a sentimental ole hoarder like that. I guess it's a way to categorize the past, what I did and how I have improved as well. I shall use them as an empowering self help tool, ha! I've started a bit of sketching for my project but nothing worth documenting I need a hit of inspiration and I'm just not feeling it right now.

Looking into the past seems to be the theme of today for me. In search for some inspiration for my sketchbook earlier I opened my inspiration folders which are full of images, but the only photos that were standing out to me were that of iconic picture, very inspirational but in a totally different way. I really cannot deny that I'm not a little obsessed with the 60s and my iconic inspiration comes in that lovely little 60s package of Marianne Faithfull. The top photo of Marianne on the bike just makes me wish so much that I owned a proper retro little vespa, not that i'd be able to drive it thats one big fear right there! But I could perch on it with a faux fur coat whilst reading Lolita and listening to the rolling stones. She also wore that full fringe so well and it makes me miss the one I had last year but I wont let it intice me, I wont pick up those scissors and attempt to snip it (I always cut my fringe when it gets annoying!) I want my fringe to grow so it can be deemed as one of them long sweeping types, safe as.

Speaking of Lolita. I've composed a little list of books and films (including the whole series of Mad Men to date) I really want to read and see hopefully by the end of the year. Whats on your must do list of books and film? Let me know of any interesting books or films you've seen recently because they may just have to creep on my list!

Books:
The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
On the Road - Jack Kerouac
Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert

Films:
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Lagerfeld Confidential
Remember Me
Into The Wild
Adventureland
Eat Pray Love

I know what you mean, I have heaps of old sketchbooks, I've used sketch books since I was 7 and I still have them, It's quite amazing looking back at some of the stuff I did then to now. Watching the progression is what amazes me.
